Our trainings cover the essential skills for allyship. These sessions begin by introducing participants to foundational knowledge before building into practical skills.

Bystander Intervention (2 hours)

Our tagline at Male Allies is “Stand Up, Speak Out.” In order to create a safer community for everyone, this training provides practical strategies for bystanders to intervene in potentially harmful situations. Our distinct approach focuses on men’s role and responsibility as bystanders.

  • By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
    • Describe the normalization of everyday sexism
    • Assess whether a situation requires intervention
    • Assume responsibility for intervening, where appropriate
LGBTQ+ Identities and Coming Out (2 hours)

“The personal is political.” This training explores both the personal and political implications of coming out as a gender or sexual minority and practical ways to support friends and family members who come out. It also explores the systemic and everyday forms of oppression that impose the need to come out.

  • By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
    • Describe the systemic challenges facing gender and sexual minorities
    • Demonstrate support for those coming out to them
    • Challenge heteronormative and cisnormative attitudes and behaviours in everyday life
